Bluesky mention by @Brungus1996: @_MetaMage_ what's the matchup matrix for TES in legacy? Please answer the question based on MTG tournament data. The full thread JSON is available but omitted here.

Now I have the top archetypes. Let me pull TES matchup winrates against all of the major ones simultaneously.

Here is the TES matchup matrix for Legacy over the last two months (May 21 - July 21, 2026). TES overall sits at a 57.8% winrate across the meta, so it is performing well as a whole. Here is the breakdown vs. the top archetypes, sorted from best to worst:

Favorable matchups (TES winning):

  • Welder Combo: 100% (3-0, small sample)
  • Energy: 85.7% (6-1)
  • Lands: 85.7% (6-1)
  • Show and Tell: 69.2% (9-4)
  • Death & Taxes: 66.7% (4-2)
  • Dimir Midrange: 66.7% (4-2, +1 draw)
  • Tron: 60.0% (6-4)
  • Grixis Reanimator: 58.3% (7-5)

Even or unfavorable matchups (TES losing or splitting):

  • Izzet Delver: 50.0% (7-7) — a true coin flip
  • Azorius Midrange: 40.0% (2-3)
  • Dimir Tempo: 33.3% (3-6)
  • Doomsday: 25.0% (3-9)

Note that Blue Artifacts and Aluren each had only 1 match against TES in this window, so those numbers (0% each) are not meaningful sample sizes. The most worrying data point is clearly Doomsday, which is the best-performing deck in the overall meta at 57.9% and also TES's worst matchup at a 25% winrate — that is a hard wall. Dimir Tempo is the other consistent trouble spot. On the other side, TES absolutely bullies the non-blue, non-permission decks like Energy and Lands.
